Metrolinx is the final piece in a three-part approach by the provincial government to prepare the GTHA for growth and sustained prosperity. Building on the work of the Greenbelt, which protects more than 1.8 million acres of environmentally sensitive and agricultural land in the heart of the region, and Places to Grow, a plan that coordinates population and job growth, Metrolinx will develop a world-class transportation system.

The Regional Municipality of York is made up of a confederation of nine municipalities and provides services to over 1 million residents, 29,000 businesses and 495,000 employees. The Region provides services for its residents and businesses that include transportation services, transit, water, wastewater, emergency services, policing, human services and growth management.

The Town of Newmarket is an environmentally progressive community, being home to Canada's first LEEDs Platinum residential subdivision. Newmarket has lots of green space, parks and extensive trail systems throughout. The Tom Taylor Trail, runs through the centre of our town and is approximately six kilometers long. Adding to this, Newmarket is implementing an exciting new Community Urban Space Project as part of its new Cultural Master Plan.
